Become a Pioneer Fire Company Volunteer!

We believe that everyone has something to offer in the way of talent or expertise that will benefit our firehouse.

By becoming a member, you are helping your community and building new friendships.  It’s an opportunity to help others in their time of need.  A fire company is more than just a bunch of people that run out to fight fires; it’s a second family and a circle of friends you can count on.

If you are interested in becoming a member, please reach out to us via our web page.  One of our executive officers will get back to you and answer any questions you may have and explain the many benefits that we offer our members.  Or you can stop by the firehouse any Thursday evening after 6:30 PM to get a tour and discuss how you can become a member.

We offer free training and gear.

Below are brief descriptions of some of the types of memberships available:

Regular Firefighter:       There are a number of classes of firefighters.  These are members that have been trained for various firefighting duties.  Some of the classifications are:  Ground Support, Exterior firefighter, Interior firefighter and Driver pump operator.  A member must be 18 years of age or older and physically fit to perform the duties of firefighter.

Junior Firefighter:          Any member 14 to 17 years of age.  These members are issued gear and go through training with qualified firefighters.  Once a Junior firefighter reaches 18 they are eligible to be a Regular firefighter.

Fire Police:                    Any member may become a Fire Police Officer.  Fire Police are members that receive training to perform certain functions traditionally performed by law enforcement.  They provide traffic control and crowd control both at the scene of an emergency and for special events.  Must be 21 years or older.

Administrative:               A member that would like to contribute time and talent to help with the paperwork and administration of the Company.

Pioneer Fire Company is a volunteer organization and has been since 1884.  Most people don’t realize that the fire service in the Borough of Jenkintown is solely provided by volunteers.  Being a member of the fire company is both rewarding and gratifying, giving you the satisfaction of knowing you are providing a needed service for your friends and neighbors.

Those that may not wish to be a firefighter or fire police officer, or may not meet the physical requirements, will find that there are many other ways to participate.  Consider volunteering, as we always need assistance with many other tasks around the firehouse.
